Campus is Abuzz for Club Rush

Details on the clubs offered at Mission Viejo High School during club rush.

Club rush was a success at Mission Viejo High School on September 24th. Not only was there high attendance at the event, but students seemed genuinely interested in joining clubs.  Even the freshman seemed interested in joining as many clubs as they could.

There were an overwhelming number of service clubs the people could join. Service clubs not only positively impact our community, but they look amazing on college applications. Just Serve is a club offered at Mission that does weekly service projects on campus.

Liesel Burley, the president of the Just Serve club, allowed me to ask her a few questions. She explained that, “Just Serve is a national service organization that focuses on providing local and international service opportunities that anyone can do.”

Burley was very passionate about her club and even convinced me to join. Club rush is an amazing opportunity for students to learn more about how they can help their community but also helps students find people with similar interests.

The National Honors Society (NHS)  is a prestigious organization that had a table at club rush. NHS’s mission statement is to provide an environment for scholars to surround themselves with other scholars and service opportunities.

Sophie Mclean, secretary of Missions NHS club, shared with me that the application process for the NHS is extensive and ultimately rewarding. To apply one must have at least 30 service hours (not CFS affiliated), a personal statement on character, evidence of leadership, and two teacher recommendations.

Members of NHS can apply for the NHS scholarship which can be anywhere from $3,200-$25,000. Not only are there scholarships opportunities but being a member of NHS also shows colleges commitment, leadership, and resilience.

A more recent addition to the service clubs that Mission offers is the Clothes for Good club. Brooke Schwartz, founder and president of Clothes for Good, shared with me why she started Clothes for Good.

She stated, “I started Clothes for Good to address poverty both locally and globally while also combating the negative impacts of fast fashion. Thrifting and shopping for clothes have always been two of my favorite hobbies, and after personally experiencing the harmful effects of fast fashion, I wanted to create a solution.”

Clothes for Good supports organizations in need with money earned through garage sales and clothing drives. Members receive service hours and are also able to be part of a positive impact. Brooke would love for volunteers and it’s not too late to sign up. In her own words, “Please join!”

More niche clubs also had tables at club rush such as the probability club and rocketry club. There was also a table for the non-profit organization, DECA that helps students prepare for careers in business and finance.

There were so many incredible clubs that had booths at club rush. It is safe to say that the 2025 club rush was a success and definitely one for the books.
