Missions athletes are known for being strong and resilient. The winter sports athletes showed off all of their hard work this past season as they fulfilled another successful one.

Our boys basketball team had quite the season. Unfortunately, they did not make it to CIF. However, they faced challenging opponents this past season and won a total of 11 games. The boys defeated Fallbrook, Capo Valley, El Toro, Lincoln, Calvary Chapel, Woodrow Wilson, Temecula Valley, San Gabriel Academy, Woodbridge, Fairmont, and Laguna Hills.

Additionally, the girls basketball team got 3rd in the Sea View League. The girls also beat a total of 11 teams, with those teams being Laguna Hills, Fullerton, Cabrillo, Godinez Fundamental, Rancho Alamitos, Bolsa Grande, St. Lucys, and Capo Valley.

MVHS’s girls soccer finished strong in league as they ended up in second place! The girls battled hard throughout their season as they beat opponents such as El Toro, Dana Hills, and Rosary Academy. Their final record was 5 wins, 8 losses, and 2 tied games.

The girls soccer team also qualified for CIF! The girls unfortunately lost the first round for Division 2 with the final score being 1-0 against Yorba Linda.

The boys soccer program fought vigorously this past season. The division 1 team is headed to CIF as they won 9 games, lost 6, and tied 4 games. The boys were victorious against teams such as El Toro, St. John Bosco, Edison, Huntington Beach, Saddleback, St. Margarets, and Santa Ana.

MVHS has been building a strong wrestling program over the years. This past season they exceeded their goals as a total of six athletes are headed to the CIF Championships. Athletes Donovan Flores, Daniel Dominguez, Zale Ming, Garret Halperin, Marie Pearson, and Janelle Avila will be representing the program!

Girls water polo had a successful season as well. The girls beat rival teams such as Trabuco Hills and Aliso in close one point games. When the girls worked hard together, they were unstoppable.

As the seasons for winter sports comes to an end, spring sports will finally get to debut their hard work that they have been putting in this past preseason.

Track, swim, dive, boys golf, baseball, softball, boys tennis, boys volleyball, and lacrosse will finish off this school year’s athletic season for the Diablos.

Congratulations to the athletes from winter sports for representing the Diablos well, and best of luck to the athletes who will be representing spring sports!
